Good morning!

So you really want to know more about me? Well! Uhm. I don’t know about youuu human folks but I don’t remember when or how I was born! I don’t really remember much at all! The centuries just kind of start blending together after a while, you know…?

I only remember that I used to be a yamabiko, an echo spirit of some sort, and I might still be, I guess, except I’m not much of an echo anymore because at some point, before I could even start yelling back the sounds in the mountains (I lived in the mountains!) it was like suddenly the sound was echoing on its own before I could even start shouting, and it’s like, can you believe it?! I felt very sad back then.

So one day, there was this wandering Buddhist! And I don’t why, but he started shouting into my valley about his faith, and it all sounded really cool? So I got all enthusiastic and shouted back and I guess I let slip how I thought it was cool and that’s really unprofessional behavior for a yamabiko, guys! But he was really cool about it and he even left me a book of sutras that I read about a bajillion times! He was the nicest guy.

So then I guess the whole Gensokyo thing happened, and when I heard in the wind that a temple for youkai and humans alike opened, I was there like yesterday! I mean, the day before the day on which I heard about it!

This is a photo Miss Byakuren took when I joined the temple.

"Congratulations on your enrollment!" "Kasodani Kyouko"

Miss Byakuren is really different from what I imagined, and so is this whole temple! Being a Buddhist is a lot more fun than I expected! I figured it was all about harsh discipline and intense self-reflection, but I guess it involves a lot more board games and slumber parties.

I’m really happy here, and I hope I can make you happy, too, even if it’s only for a brief moment!
